Millers Court is a charming row of three brick cottages or 'carriage houses.' Millers Court is a bright, clean, spacious developed alley (court) located 2.5 blocks from the US Capitol grounds, just off of prestigious East Capitol Street, between East Capitol Street and A Street NE. These cottages were most likely built around 1880, probably as housing for craftsmen working on various federal buildings and/or as neighborhood shops. Each is a separate two-story house with an open floorplan, with private entrance and private backyard. Each is approximately 550 to 600 square feet. Very few carriage houses remain on Capitol Hill today. One of the great advantages of living in a 'court' setting like this is that you are between major streets, so there is very little street noise or vehicle traffic. It's an unusually quiet spot in a vibrant neighborhood. The area immediately around Millers Court is clean, well-lit, and open. These carriage houses are selling for around $500,000 in this neighborhood. NEW: Take a tour of the amenities and sights of East Capitol Street, located just 1/2 block away.

I was a part-time tenant at Miller's Court from November 1, 2003 until October 1, 2007. During that time my job required me to spend about 70 percent of my time in DC (I am based in Midwest). As anyone who travels for business knows checking in and out of hotels can be stressful. My home away from home was perfect. Given the close proximity to Capitol Hill and subway stations made it ideal. The neighborhood was charming and most importantly extremely safe. Many evenings at 9:00 or 9:30 I would walk to Starbuck's for a cup of coffee and never have to be concerned about my well-being. It is also the most perfect neighborhood for anyone who wants to walk for exercise. Everything you need is accessible by foot, subway or taxi.

The best thing about Miller's Court is the attention to all details by the owners. The furnishings are wonderful and they are quick to respond to any concern or questions.

Tenant Comments:

I was very apprehensive about staying in Washington D.C., especially with signing a contract for a place I had not seen in person. Upon arrival, all my worries disappeared. The Carriage House is a perfect location, near the Metro stop, restaurants, all the museums and national monuments, dry cleaners, and several coffee houses. Safety was never a concern because the Capital Hill police are on almost every corner. It was nice to have a sense of privacy and a feeling of being “home,” which is a luxury often sacrificed when staying at a hotel. The Carriage House has an updated and modern kitchen, stock full of all the amenities one might need so that you can cook, just as if you were home. There is also a flat panel television with DVR so I never once had to worry about missing my favorite shows. The bed was very comfortable and I enjoyed many nights of peaceful sleep. I enjoyed my stay with Capitol Hill Stay, and will look for their services the next time I have an extended stay in the D.C. area.

Millers Court was an idea location for my needs. As a professor supervising student interns, I had to be near their apartment next to Union Station, and walk to many of their sites scattered on Capitol Hill. The apartment was placed perfectly to get quickly around the entire Hill area. As a carriage house it was very quiet, tucked in the middle of a block. And it was completely safe--an open center parking area and well lit at night. The apartment itself was well appointed--clean, very comfortable, warm in the winter and cool in the warmer days of spring. Felt as much or more like home than I expected on making the arrangements. Would strongly recommend it to anyone needing a central location and still wanting a bit of an "away from it all" feel. -- Doug K., Educator

I chose to stay at the carraige house on Capitol Hill so that I would be able to stay in a house not in a furnished apartment. Having just lived apartment style for five months it was the last thing that I really wanted to do. So I chose the carriage house. I love it! I came my first day a little hesitant because I rented based off the pictures on the internet. It was better than I expected and the pictures do not do it justice. The furnishings are elegant and lovely. Also the street is quiet and the neighborhood and location are great. Everything you could need is within walking distance. The corner stores stock everything. The food that you can get within walking distance is like no other. Also the metro lines are close enough to walk to and the sites of DC are just out your door. The few issues that came up with the carriage house were promptly fixed...even after hours on the weekend...because you know that nothing breaks during normal hours. I would recommend the carriage house and any of Capitol Hill Stay's properties to anyone. I hope to use them again next time I get stationed out here. -- Tiffany, Federal employee
